Winter
Winter is a special time along the Denali Highway
The road is closed for traffic but groomed for snowmachine access and the area presents epic opportunities for ice fishing, dog sledding and riding snowmachines in the Alaska Range and Denali Clearwater Mountains with the lodges providing delicious meals and a warm cozy base for your adventures.
Winter activities
Ice fishing is possible all along the highway and at all the lodges but make sure you if fishing gear is available for rental if you are not bringing your own.
Build a camp on the lake and enjoy the sun while you pull up huge fish from the secret spots around the lodges.
Riding snowmachines around the lodges on the Denali Highway is a must if you you enjoy lots of snow, mountains and endless possibilities to go explore on your machine.
Guided tours are also available if you are not local and can guide you anywhere from the top of a mountain to the foot of a glazier for some potential ice cave exploration.
Northern lights / aurora borealis can be seen all winter and these beautiful dancing waves of light that have captivated people for millennia are spectacular in the wildernes where there is no city light pollution.
Energized particles from the sun hits the Earth’s upper atmosphere at speeds of up to 40 million mph, but luckely our planet’s magnetic field protects us from the onslaught and creates this beautiful dance of light for us.
